Claire Urban
Head Junior Varsity Volleyball Coach
Girls Junior Varsity Volleyball
Claire has been playing volleyball since 3rd grade. In high school she was an all-state, 4 year varsity starting outside hitter that played six rotations. She then went to Lansing Community College on a volleyball and basketball scholarship. In volleyball she stayed a starting six rotation outside hitter both years and she came sixth off the bench in basketball the first year as a 2 guard and was the starting 2 guard the following year. She has been involved in coaching her whole life, she has worked as a ski instructor in high school and was always a counselor at basketball and volleyball camps. She has been coaching volleyball for the past 4 years, both club and high school(Northville-Assistant and Freshmen coach, as well as Livonia Stevenson). Over the past 4 years she has been a head coach and operations manager for Force Volleyball Academy, coaching several age groups, 14's 15's 16's and 17's. When asked what kind of a coach she sees herself as she said, "I am a fair but tough coach who really drives kids to learn proper technique and have a strong work ethic. I believe in pushing athletes to be competitive and helping them to reach their highest potential but I also believe in using positive reinforcement to get that accomplished. I take this job very seriously and strive not only to be a good coach but a good role model because it isn't just about volleyball, it is also teaching girls to be strong independent women that treat others with respect. If the girls come out of a volleyball program learning a little bit more about life, loving this amazing sport, all while having a million fun memories to look back on, then myself and the other coaches have done our job."
